Investigating Invisible Borders

‘Investigating Invisible Borders’ was designed as a workshop in June 2017 and examined the administrative city border which marks Leipzig’s ‘obligatory residency for people with refugee status’ (Residenzpflicht). These geographical boundaries restrict freedom of movement and choice of residence. As a group - some with refugee and migrant backgrounds, others born in Germany - we explored and enacted notions of borders, movement and in/visibility. With a series of creative methods we shared associations and developed ideas, then walked, documented and overstepped the geographic city border. Making it visible through our photographs and actions, the outcome was collectively edited and worked into an installation at the exhibition ‘Im_Mobilities' at KUB Gallery, Leipzig.
